Personal Skills

Personal skills are those skills which enable a person to achieve what they set out to do.  I consider the core personal skills to be time management, stress management and communication skills.  If we all develop in these three areas we will become more effective and, consequently, more satisfied.  Most of the skills in this section cross over the boundaries of the above.  For example ‘handling conflict’ is effectively a communication skill as well as a stress management strategy and the successful development of this skill helps us to manage our time, in that if we avoid conflict we often take on too much just to please those around us.

Our fundamental beliefs about ourselves may have an impact on our personal skills and it is sometimes necessary to explore these in order to understand why we use such unsustainable behaviours as procrastination and perfectionism.  We can change these tendencies if they hold us back; with a little help and a lot of determination and some hard work we can change the way we do things in order to get the most out of our lives.  Although it may be important to explore these issues the key focus of training is to develop sustainable behaviours.  However, identifying our values and beliefs does help us to unlock the potential for positive change, this is sometimes best explored in a one-to-one coaching session (see the section on Coaching in this website).

The courses in this section represent some of the programmes I have designed over the years and I am always happy to discuss specific needs with a client.
