CO-COACHING SKILLS FOR ACADEMICS AND RESEARCHERS
OVERVIEW
As an academic and researcher you may find yourself working for long periods without support or the opportunity to talk about your work. This can result in isolation, stagnation, reduced confidence, lack of inspiration and a reduction in creativity as well as effectiveness. In other words, isolation can hinder our effectiveness and marginalise us in our careers.
There is an easy way to gain support from those around us and that is to co-coach. Coaching is a “drawing out” activity which helps individuals to gain focus, make decisions and identify any changes needed to achieve their potential. The coach provides an objective view, a “listening ear” and the support required to maintain the momentum when the pressure is on. Co-coaching is when we offer each other this service.
The aim of the Coaching is to develop both the confidence and the competence of the individual through a practical and solutions based approach. Coaching sessions are relaxed, informal and confidential to enable individuals to explore the issues and come up with workable solutions. It is a good idea if you come on this course with a colleague who would like to be your co-coach, at the end of the day you will have the tools to offer coaching support to each other using the TOP COACH model designed by Sylvia Vacher of Objectives who is, herself, a practicing coach.
