Creative Time Management for Academics

Creative Time Management for Academics

Overview

Have you ever wondered where time goes?  It seems like six months is a long time to get that paper submitted and that the term is far into the distant future and then, all of a sudden, they are both upon us.  Balancing research, teaching, personal tutoring and administration responsibilities can be a constant juggling act.  The role of academic can either be a cross to bear or an interesting, stimulating and diverse career choice.  If we get on top of things and manage our workload the latter applies, if, however, we let the work manage us it is easy to become bogged down and overwhelmed.

Take a day out of your working life to reflect upon what happens to the day, the week the month and learn to take some control over your working life.  Many people are put off time management training because they think it will be boring and anti-creative. The aim of time management is not to be organised, that would be boring, the aim is to find freedom and spontaneity.  If we want to be creative we need to manage our time and make space in our lives, before time manages us.  When was the last time you felt free to make your own choices?  Come along and try to regain some of that freedom in your working life, develop some sustainable behaviours and eliminate some of your bad habits.

Objectives Training and Development was set up by Sylvia Vacher MA BA(Hons) MCIPD FAETC in 1989 to: “Provide training and development services, for both individuals and organisations, enabling them to identify and achieve their objectives in a positive, healthy and fulfilling way” Sylvia believes that the way to achieve this is by identifying and developing Sustainable Behaviours and encouraging Wiser Working at an individual, team and corporate level. Sylvia’s training style is dynamic, participatory and effective.
